A British Christening for Embrace The Challenge

Last week, we opened the doors to our new team base in Gosport, UK to celebrate the christening of Embrace The Challenge.
This was our opportunity to bring together around 100 family members, friends, suppliers and supporters who have helped make this campaign possible and to celebrate the start of the next chapter together.
A christening ceremony is an important tradition in sailing, meant to seek good fortune, bless the vessel, and bestow protection upon the ship. Typically, the ceremony is performed by a female who acts as the boat’s ‘godmother’.
We were delighted to welcome one of Britain's most accomplished offshore sailors, Dee Caffari MBE, to perform the honours.
In a moving speech, Dee reflected on the significance of the boat's original name, Yoroshiku, a Japanese expression often interpreted as "to be placed in good hands".
With that, the champagne was poured over the bow and Embrace The Challenge was officially christened.

Guests were invited aboard for guided tours. For many, it was their first opportunity to see our new foiling IMOCA and experience first-hand the environment Ollie will call home during the years ahead.
The reaction was one of amazement at the technology, respect for the scale of the challenge and, perhaps most of all, a new appreciation of just how remarkable these machines really are.

The rest of the evening was celebrated in true British fashion. The rain held off whilst guests enjoyed fish and chips overlooking the boatyard, followed by ice cream sundaes, while catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
Welcome to the UK, Embrace The Challenge, we wish you fair winds, following seas and to enjoy every mile sailing with us!
