SOLO

The first selection race of 2024, this non-stop, solo race is also one of the most iconic in the IMOCA series.

Founded in 1960 before satellite navigation systems existed, this challenging race was , and still is, a true test of seamanship and courage.

This edition sees competitors race from Lorient to New York. Crossing the Northern Atlantic, against the prevailing currents, competitors can expect demanding upwind conditions and a series of weather systems - ideal preparation ahead of the Vendée Globe.

Exclusively for IMOCA yachts, this is the last selection race for skippers hoping to be on the start line of the Vendée Globe in November 2024.

Departing from the iconic city of New York on 29th May on a demanding course, the boats are expected to arrive into Les Sables d’Olonne, in the Département of Vendée, France roughly 10 days later.

THE Vendée GLOBE

10 NOV 2024

SOLO

The Vendée Globe is a single-handed (solo) non-stop round the world yacht race. It is considered an extreme quest of individual endurance and the ultimate test in ocean racing.

The race starts and finishes in Les Sables d'Olonne. The course is a circumnavigation along the clipper route: down the Atlantic Ocean to the Cape of Good Hope; then clockwise around Antarctica, keeping Cape Leeuwin and Cape Horn to port; then back to Les Sables d’Olonne.

Competitors will face the rough seas of the Southern Ocean as well as the windless Doldrums.

The race generally covers approximately 24,000 nautical miles (44,000 km) and runs from November through to February. In its 10 year history, 200 competitors have started, but only 114 have finished, earning it the nickname 'the Everest of the Seas'.
